29th of October

After we finished up the presentations, we have been working on finding contestants and a place to film. We got a go from the chiefs in the kitchen down in the cantine, and will have an hour to shoot there Monday afternoon.

So far, we have also found three people to take part in the production. Because the idea we presented today seemed a little hard to go through with, we chose to make it a bit easier for ourselves. We discussed the whole family part of it, and concluded that we'll use couples instead. Since the target group will be young Danes from 20-30 years old, it will be easier to identify with the contestants/the jury if they are in a relationship rather than a family with kids, especially since most of them probably don't have a baby yet.

At the same time, we decided that the TV-host doesn't necessarily need to be a chief, but we'll use chiefs to guide the contestants along the way, which gives room for more chiefs in the show, as well as a host who will probably be more interested and eager to learn herself, considering that she doesn't know as much about cooking as a chief would have done.

The rest of the time we have been looking at other pilots and extracts from food programs, finding out what kind of shots we will need and so on. Our thought is to make it kind of a «classic» food program pilot, but at the same time we'll have to present the twist and the «rules» in an easy way for the viewer. Therefore we started writing on a manuscript for the TV-host, as well as collecting the most relevant facts to present in the pilot - which we'll use to make an overview of the food waste situation in Denmark.

Day 7 :)

28.10.2015

Today we had a meeting with our teacher. We discussed our plans with him and he had some really good tips. We wanted to make a cooking program where famous/well-known people would compete against each other. Our teacher told us that we could go for another way because this way might be difficult and a bit boring because it looks a lot like Masterchef. He told us that it would be fun to have a mon or a dad as contestant who cooks for his/her family. We really liked that idea and we decided that we would go for that one.

After the meeting we changed some things in the presentation we already made because it had to fit with our new idea.

At this point we finished the presentation and we are done with our work for today. We are a bit worried about how we are going to find a family for our video. We decided to leave it for today and that we are going to search for a family, a chef and a location tomorrow

Tuesday 27th of October

Today we began discussing different angles of a TV-concept concerning food waste in Denmark. After quite a short time we agreed that a food competition would be the best way to keep the viewers interested, but at the same time educate them about food waste and what it's possible to get out of the food that most people usually throw away.

During the day we have discussed a lot of aspects such as: Which contestants would make the viewers interested in watching? How much information and what information should be presented in the episodes? In what way could we make the competition interesting and exiting, at the same time as teaching the viewer something new?

We landed upon a concept and an idea based on the discussion of these questions. The concept is based on elements that we think work in other food programs, but at the same time it presents something new: raising awareness of food waste in Denmark by inspiring the viewer to make dishes out of cheap food or food he or she usually would throw away - just as the contestants are doing in the show.

By showing tricks and tips, presented by the chef (the host) in each episode, the TV-show will hopefully make it easier to cook for less and at the same time help decrease food waste in Denmark.

Day 4 :)

Day 4 :)

Today was a productive day. We went to the library to meet Jonas Emil. He is head of communication at Overskudsmad, a non-profit organization founded by the same people as Stof spild af mad. They are collecting left over food for shelters and poor people. The interview went very fluently and after it we went back to school. After we arrived at school we edited the interview and added the outcomes in the PowerPoint presentation.

Jonas wasn't the only one we talked to. We also talked to Jackie Hong. Jackie Hong is a freelance journalist that wrote an article for Vice. She experienced eating out of dumpsters for two weeks. Jackie is actually from Canada, so we did the interview over Skype. It was really interesting because she could give us all the information that we deeded.

We got some new findings by doing the interview. We discussed our plans with the teacher and he told us that we were on a good way. That gave us some extra energy! The only thing that is left now is finishing the PowerPoint presentation. After that we are ready for tomorrow.

Day 3 :-)

Today we started going trough the answers on the e-mails we sent out yesterday. Two people were happy to meet up/skype with us, and we'll be doing both of the interviews tomorrow.

One of them is working as head of communication in a non-profit organization called «Overskudsmad», and our goal for the interview is first and foremost to get an impression of his thoughts on the matter, as well as possible solutions to the challenge.

The other one is a girl who ate out of dumpsters in Aarhus for two weeks, and wrote an article about it for Vice. We'll talk to her about that specific experience and her view on dumpster diving in Denmark.

We hope that the interviews will give us more information on what matter we should base our idea on, and further insight into attitudes and legislation regarding food waste and dumpster diving i Denmark.

At the same time, we have tried to find people that could work as cases. As of today, most of the people we have found are doing dumpster diving in smaller or bigger groups. When we decide on a more specific matter, we'll try to get in touch with them and see if they could be interested in participating. We could have a hard time doing that, because most of them are posting online as anonymous users due to the fact that dumpster diving is seen as a bad thing among certain people, such as shop owners and workers.

Research Into Possible Interviewees

Day 2 :)

We have decided to further our research into the topic of dumpster diving and food waste, after reading the vice article we posted yesterday. We feel that these topics allows for a number of different entry points as well as being appealing to our young target audience. This idea is also easy to visualize TV concept. We are in the currently in the process of contacting possible interviewees with the intention of carrying out two interviewees. We have contacted:

  • Blogger Ellen Linde, a young artist from Copenhagen who has  a blog about dumpster diving in Copenhagen.
  • The University Post, whom wrote an article about dumpster diving in Copenhagen, asking for the contact of the reporter
  • An organization that recently published 'Madspild I Danmark' including statistics, this was published last month
  • The Organization 'Stop spild af mad'
  •  A free lance journalist that wrote the original Vice article
  • A 34 year old dane whom has a youtube channel documenting her dumpster diving
  • A volunteer at a local food bank
  • Managers of Local Netto and Local Fakta

Sabaah, an organization targeting LGBT Danes with an ethnic background other than Danish, has a different approach to the concept of the struggling LGBT Other.  Meaning “new day” or “new beginning” in Arabic, Sabaah was founded by a group of young people who, according to the organization’s Web site, “wished to create a sense of community and solidarity, and to create a network among homosexuals with […] ethnic backgrounds [other] than Danish.” Sabaah is a “social network that supports and guides people through the kind of problems that homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals with ethnic backgrounds other than Danish often encounter: Identity, ‘coming-out’, religion, loneliness, family conflicts, parents, reactions, relationships, and the gay community.”  Its founders saw a need for such a support group back in April 15, 2006, the date it was founded. And that such a group still exists and continues to grow suggests that there is still such a need.

// http://www.b.dk/kommentarer/aisha-er-du-jomfru
