Today we began discussing different angles of a TV-concept concerning food waste in Denmark. After quite a short time we agreed that a food competition would be the best way to keep the viewers interested, but at the same time educate them about food waste and what it's possible to get out of the food that most people usually throw away.
During the day we have discussed a lot of aspects such as: Which contestants would make the viewers interested in watching? How much information and what information should be presented in the episodes? In what way could we make the competition interesting and exiting, at the same time as teaching the viewer something new?
We landed upon a concept and an idea based on the discussion of these questions. The concept is based on elements that we think work in other food programs, but at the same time it presents something new: raising awareness of food waste in Denmark by inspiring the viewer to make dishes out of cheap food or food he or she usually would throw away - just as the contestants are doing in the show.
By showing tricks and tips, presented by the chef (the host) in each episode, the TV-show will hopefully make it easier to cook for less and at the same time help decrease food waste in Denmark.
